ZAKK WYLDE's Father Dies

January 20, 2009

On Monday, January 19, Zakk Wylde's (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) father passed away peacefully in his sleep. The following is a statement from Zakk regarding his Dad's passing:

"My father, Jerome F. Wielandt, who served as an inspiration to me and my music throughout my life, has passed away. His influence on my life and the life of others has motivated me in ways that have been both unexpected and profound.

"My father spent his youth as a orphan in New Jersey who was subsequently drafted to serve his country. A World War II veteran, he participated in the events of D-Day at Omaha Beach as well as Normandy.

"My father meant more than the world to me, and his passing will no doubt influence my direction in life and career as this new year continues to unfold.

"I am asking fans to allow time for me and my family to grieve in private.

"In lieu of flowers, our family would like donations made in Jerome F. Wielandt's memory to:

Deborah Heart And Lung Center
200 Trenton Road
Browns Mills, NJ 08015
(609) 735-2916

"Lastly, '1919 Eternal' [BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's 2002 album] was dedicated to dad, and is my legacy to this unique individual I owe nearly everything to. I shall let that album stand the test of time to his greatness."
